K.u.K. Restaurant Piaristenkeller

In the Viennese suburb of “Josefstadt” is the Piarist Church, which was built at the beginning of the 18th century as a Piarist religious order church. Even back then there was already a wine tavern, the Stiftskeller.

Emperor Franz Joseph had the Josefstadt barracks “k.k.” built directly behind the church buildings in 1772. Build cavalry barracks. Part of the complex was a parade yard and stables for 2,500 horses. The monastery cellar of the Piarist monastery, now the Piarist cellar, is said to have been a popular meeting place for officers from the nearby barracks.

When you enter the Piarist cellar, a bygone world opens up. The dim light and the furnishings, which remain true to the period, take visitors back to the time of the monastery cellar.

Emperor Franz Joseph Hat Museum

Today, the historic monastery cellar is not only home to the “Piaristenkeller” restaurant but also the entertaining Kaiser Franz Joseph Hat Museum. The noble k.u.k. Headgear inspires visitors, but can not only be admired here, but above all worn. With a souvenir photo you can capture the evening and the impressions of a time long gone. 🙂

In the winding k.u.k. The wine treasury offers adventure tours, wine tastings and wedding customs such as the “barrel slide” to make a visit an experience.
