About Vienna’s surrounding area
A lot is known about the city of Vienna and a lot of historiography has dealt with the city and its inhabitants down to the last detail. Significantly less, however, is known about the surrounding area. This is at least as varied as the Vienna itself.
While the city is almost embraced to the west by the Vienna Woods and the hilly landscape leads into the Alps to contemplative places such as Baden and Klosterneuburg, spreads a wide plain east of the Danube. The Viennese countryside is also characterized by viticulture.
So there is much to discover in the places around Vienna. From hiking, climbing tours and wine tasting to bathing fun in the Danube or a visit to the Donau-Auen National Park. In addition, there are remains from times long gone. Old imperial hunting lodge and the ruins of a Roman city can be visited. Much around Vienna is just as narrative and worth experiencing as the city itself.
