In the summer months we cool off in the pools or cool excursion destinations, in spring and autumn we enjoy the sight of the raging water. There is only one waterfall Vienna in the form of the water fountains in the beautiful fountains. These are, for example, the Neptune fountain in the Schönbrunn Palace Park, the high jet fountain on Schwarzenbergplatz or the fountain in the Belvedere.

On the trail of cooling down, the Hagenbachklamm is the closest waterfall to the city of Vienna, through which you can walk and get a cool breeze. However, the first real waterfalls can only be enjoyed when you visit the Myra Falls. The Myra Falls are still very close to Vienna and can therefore be reached quickly.
A little further but still close enough is the Johannesbachklamm in Würflach near the Schneeberg. Of course, this excursion destination can also be combined very well with a trip to the Schneeberg, so you can cool off even more in summer 🙂
More waterfalls in Lower Austria
A little further west from Schneeberg is the “Kalte Kuchl” with the waterfalls in Hohenberg. The Kalte Kuchl itself is already a popular excursion tip, as you can stop for a moment and jump into the cool water right next to the road.
The Lohnbachfall in Rappottenstein or the Ysperklamm in the southern Waldviertel can be well planned as a day trip to the Waldviertel. The Lassingfall in the Ötschergräben is a worthwhile natural spectacle in the Mostviertel. There is also the “Mirafall” waterfall in Mitterbach an der Erlauf and, in addition, the Erlaufsee. This lake is also highly recommended for swimming or for a boat trip. If you need a little more fun, you should simply plan a trip up the Gemeindealpe or you can take the mountain carts back down to the valley.
Tip: The Wasserlochklamm is located in northern Styria, specifically in Palfau. This is just a few kilometers away from the Hochkar.
