Vienna’s most-photographed monument

The “Waltz King”, Johann Strauss the Son stands in gilt bronze glory in the Stadtpark in the first district. The monument, which shows the composer and conductor with a violin in his hand, is considered the most-photographed monument in Vienna.

Johann Strauss Monument

The finished monument was unveiled in June 1921 – after a whopping 18 years of planning, financing and creation. In 1935, blemished parts of the gilding were removed and not replaced until 1991. Finally in 2011, the famous and popular statue underwent a major renovation.
