Tuchlauben – Goldenes Quartier: A luxury paradise in the heart of Vienna

The Golden Quarter is a business district in Vienna’s first district. It lies between Steindlgasse, Bognergasse and Tuchlauben and comprises two large building complexes. Here are the flagship stores of over 20 fine international brands and the neighborhood is directly adjacent to the Kohlmarkt, which also houses stores of labels such as Michael Kors and Dolce & Gabbana.

An old and a new quarter – Goldenes Quartier

The quarter in the middle of the historic old town was already in the thirteenth century and the course of some streets was as they are found today. After redesigning the buildings at the beginning of the twentieth century, the Golden Quarter shone for a long time in the splendor of the Art Nouveau style, and even today the façade, as well as the interior design, remains largely intact, albeit restored several times. In 2008, the conversion to a luxury district began. However, the completion was delayed until 2014 after a fire on the construction site.

In the two building complexes, the ground floor and the first floor are mainly dedicated to the retail sector and there are the branches of numerous luxury brands. Above it are offices and luxury apartments. The exclusive five-star Park Hyatt Hotel is also located in one of the two buildings in the former headquarters of the Österreichische Länderbank.

Tuchlauben – the stores

Its flagship store has, among others, the British luxury fashion brand Alexander McQueen. This is both the first and the only store of the brand in Austria. French luxury is also available at Louis Vuitton, whose Global Store in the Golden Quarter is one of the largest stores of the label in Europe. There is also Bambini, a luxury children’s fashion store that also stocks brands like Gucci and Fendi. Even the shop itself is spectacular, as the design is reminiscent of a fairytale in a modern style and in the branch of the Etro brand there is hidden art.

In addition to the aforementioned labels, many other brands such as Prada, Mulberry and Armani have their stores in the Golden Quarter. This lives up to its name and not only offers pure luxury, but also a wide selection.
