At the foot of the Belvedere Palace complex, which can be entered not far from Schwarzenbergplatz, lies the lower part of Belvedere Palace, also known as the Lower Belvedere. In addition to some of the living quarters that can be visited here, there are the orangeries, state stables and the entrance to the park, which was laid out around 1700. The building was previously a pleasure house, which Prince Eugene acquired with the property and had converted into the Lower Belvedere by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. He used these rooms as a summer residence.

Exhibition “Is this Biedermeier?” at the Lower Belvedere
The art exhibition at the Lower Belvedere is dedicated to painting from the Biedermeier period in 1830 to beyond this era. Selected works from this period offer an insight into the art and themes up to 1860, with scenes from everyday life in particular on display. Vienna is considered the center of the exhibition, with Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller in particular being honored, even though many of his most important works were created after the Biedermeier period. The furnishings and furniture also give an impression of life in the Biedermeier style, right through to the stylistic shift to the Second Rococo.
