Porcelain Manufactory – Porcelain Vienna

Founded in 1718, the Augarten manufactory is considered the second oldest manufactory in Europe. A guided tour through the actual production rooms gives visitors an insight into the modeling of modern and classic tea and coffee services, vases, lamps and figurines. The elegant and beautifully presented porcelain is often used as tableware in the Hofburg or the Federal Chancellery.

In the 18th century, the white gold was still reserved for the nobility and the imperial court, but today anyone can buy a precious vacation souvenir in the store next to the manufactory or in the modern Augarten flagship store.

Porcelain museum in the Augarten

The former imperial pleasure building now also houses a porcelain museum. The history of Viennese porcelain is illustrated here with over 150 historical exhibits. This starts with the origins of porcelain in China and continues through the porcelain enthusiasm of European princes to the use of porcelain over the last few centuries.

Guided tours of the manufactory and the porcelain museum

A guided tour of the manufactory reveals the fine art of porcelain molding and porcelain painting. Each step of this craft requires specialists from the following professions: Mold makers, model makers, kiln setters, painters, burnishers and gold polishers.

The tour guides explain the individual stages of production, i.e. from the raw materials for the porcelain to the interaction between the specialists in the production process. Duration of the tour: approx. 60 minutes.

Please note that guided tours are only offered from Monday to Thursday without advance reservation and on Fridays only with advance reservation.
